Database Administrator (ABD)

The role of the Database Administrator (ABD) is to organize and reliably manage management systems company data. He must ensure the consistency, the quality and the security. In continuous technology watch, he may have to manage several databases and several tools.
The database administrator participates in the choice of software packages and implementation of databases of his business. It is then he who installed, configure, administers and optimizes the base (s).

MAIN ACTIVITIES :

The main activities of the IT technical project manager consist of:

Database design
  • Set up standards for databases, recommend good practices for use by development teams;
  • Make the choice of database implementation in accordance with the specifications and in collaboration with the various actors of the project;
  • Define in an optimal way the parameters of the database as well as the security rules and standards of use;
  • Model the base and design the tables and keys.
Administration and maintenance of databases
  • Guarantee the availability and quality of data by maintaining and improving performance and functionality;
  • Administer access permissions for users as well as data security issues;
  • Define quality standards and develop dashboards and to monitor them;
  • Make sure that the backups are done correctly and control the movements on the data.
Technical support and assistance to IT specialists and users
  • Provide support to the Data department in understanding technical databases and their integration into the decision-making environment;
  • Provide technical support to users and define intervention procedures;
  • Intervene immediately in the event of incidents limiting database performance or access to information.
Technology watch and database control
  • Ensure a technological watch in order to maintain the adequacy of the performances and specificities of the databases to the needs of the company;
  • Define the norms and standards of use and operation of database management systems;
  • Ensure the updating of the documentation on the structure of the base, and the operating and production procedures.

SKILLS AND QUALITIES:

The Database Administrator must be able to understand the environment and activities of the company where he works. He must also:
  • Have a good knowledge of the global information system and the database architecture;
  • Master the databases (Oracle, MySQL, SyBase, SQL Server ...) and the tools specialized in the administration of these databases;
  • Master the SQL query language;
  • Know shell scripts under UNIX, Windows or MVS;
  • Controlling database security risks.

EDUCATION:

To become a Database Administrator, it is necessary to obtain a minimum bac +3 diploma (License, DUT, BTS) specializing in IT, IT administration and security of systems and networks, information systems and database management, or, better yet, a bac +5 diploma such as :
  • Engineering schools (IT, telecoms, generalist)
  • Master 2 specializing in IT and / or telecoms, security of computer systems and networks
An experience of 3 years in computer development is desirable.
